Dear Relation,
During the past few months I have been coresponding with Col. Sir William Jardine of Applegirth, who is the 22nd Hereditary Chief of Clan Jardine.

Although our name is spelt slightly differently, i have through some research asserted that we would have all been part of the same clan in the early days of Scotland, the oldest reference that i have found to date of the name Jarden is of a William Jarden who was master of a family in the parish of Buittle in 1684. I passed this information on to Sir William and at the Clan Council meeting held last September it was decided by the council that the families relating to the name of Jarden were allegable as members of the Jardine Clan,. The membership gives us permission to wear the Clan Tartan, Tie, Badges etc,and a member willalso recieve a copy of the latest newsletter which contains a list of members throughout the world of which there are nine Nzs listed. I am hoping that we will have a large number of the Jardens in NZ joining as it will give us a chance to renew some of the ties that have been lost over the years and perhaps might lead to a renunionof the Jardens in NZ. In agreeing to include Jardens to the Clan of the Council had to submit the ammendment of their constitution to the Chief of the Clans in Scotland for his approval, so as you can understand the inclusion if the Jardens to the Clan is not to be taken lightly. The membership fee is a nominal £2 Stirling wich is payable to the Treasurer of the Claniin Scotland upon completion of a membership form wich can be obtained from me. I am also at present tracing our people that came to NZ from Great Britain, some I have located in Ireland, New York, and we have also exchanged visits with Jardens from Australia. I would be very interested in any information relating to any family in the UK or anywhere in the world. Hoping to hear from you in the near future, I remain Your Relation, Lloyd w Jarden. ( Son of the late James John Jarden)
